You have to apply in person at the local social security office  Supplemental Security Income (SSI)  To help those over 65+, blind, or disable  Medicare

13. Pension Income  Pensions are funds paid by employers to former employees who contributed to a special retirement fund while they were employed

Elder Abuse  Elder abuse refers to intentionally or knowingly causing the elder person to suffer physical harm or injury, unreasonable confinement, sexual abuse, or lack of services or medical treatment to maintain health  Material abuse means the misuse of the elder person’s property or financial resource

Community Resources for Providing Care  Adult Day Care is a program that transports older adults from their home to centers that provide daytime activities  Community-based day care is a program of activities for older people who are still somewhat independent.  Home health care may be a solution for the very elderly. Nurses or aides go to the elderly person’s home to provide assistance with health care

Death and Dying  Hospice care is designed to help a dying person live the final days of life in comfort  Coping with Death  The first stage of grieving bring feelings of emptiness and numbness  The second stage may bring feelings of being anxious, fearful and abandoned  People who have mourned the loss of a loved one will gradually accept the loss and adjust to living without that person
