2 Personal Protective Equipment Eye protection Clothing – lab aprons when indicated. Always wear closed-toed shoes in the lab. Secure long hair with hair tie. Gloves – Always wear gloves when working with potentially infectious living organisms or chemicals.

3 Safeguards in Case of Accidents Eyewash stations/showers Fume hoods in chemistry classrooms Fire extinguishers Sharp objects disposal container MSDS

4 Lab Safety Rules 1. Know the locations of first aid kit, eyewash, and fire equipment. 2. Wear eye protection whenever glassware or solutions are heated or fumes may be present. Use goggles and other PPE as indicated by the instructor. 3. Assume all chemicals are dangerous. Clean spills and surfaces immediately. Dispose of chemicals properly.

5 4. Avoid inhaling chemical fumes. 5. No eating, drinking, or smoking in the lab. Never touch any lab equipment with your mouth. 6. Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewelry. Long hair should be tied back. Do not wear sandals or open-toe shoes. 7. Absolutely NO HORSEPLAY. Report any incidents to your instructor.
