3 Soil and Water The earth’s surface is made up of approximately 75% water. Most of the water is not suitable for drinking. Only Fresh water (potable) can be consumed by humans. In most cases the food chain is considered to begin with water.

6 Soil and Water Why is Land Erosion such a problem? –With many inches of rain per year the top layer of soil will be lost.

7 Soil and Water Ways to help prevent soil erosion –Keep soil covered with plants. –Mulch uncovered soil. –Conservation tillage. –Contour practices. –Rotate crops
