2. Background and History  1994 was a break-out year for Carrey. He was cast in the lead roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), The Mask and Dumb and Dumber.  Carrey grew up in Burlington, Ontario, for eight years, and attended Aldershot High School.  He doesn't have a high school diploma. He left high school in the 9th grade, because his family was in hard economic times.  His original family name - Carré - is French.

3. What types of comedy or humour does this person or group tend to focus on?  Jim Carrey uses physical comedy. Somewhat similar to slapstick, this form uses physical movement and gestures; often influenced by clowning.  Slapstick comedy is a form of comedy portraying a story with the use of noises an example of slapstick comedy would be Tom and Jerry and or Looney tunes.

4. What are common themes this person or group dwell on?  Jim Carrey often dwells on themes such as taking life situations and making things funny by acting stupid.  He uses situational irony to make his comedy funny.

5. To what extent is the humour presented appropriate? For what ages? Does this person or group ever ‘cross the line’?  Jim Carrey's humor is applied to a more visual audience. It is mostly humor appropriate for the more mature audience.  He is mostly focusing on the 15-30-40 year old people.  Yes, lots of time Jim Carrey goes too far in expression.

6. What makes the humour or comedy uniquely Canadian? In other words, what identifiable Canadian stereotypes are presented and portrayed?  Jim Carrey's comedy is very identifiably Canadian. He often use humor from his experiences in his time in Canada.  He is from Canada so many people use the stereotype of it being cold making fun of him.
