Japan has a rich cultural tradition, many pastimes have been handed down from one generation to the next.

TODAY WE WILL LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT THE JAPANESE GEISHA, ORIGAMI, SUMO WRESTLING, JAPANESE FOOD AND SOME JAPANESE WORDS.

Japanese Geisha are traditional female entertainers whose skills include performing various Japanese arts such as classical music and dance.

Japanese dresses or Kimonos are traditional clothing worn by women and geishas. Geishas also wear white makeup. They dress this way to look like pretty dolls. When you play with dolls you must be VERY gentle. Geisha Doll Geisha Woman

Japanese origami (the art of paper folding) Origami is created by folding and sculpting paper, cutting and using glue is not allowed. Origami was traditionally used to give as gifts, now it’s a hobby and used as art. The most popular origami is the crane (a bird), if you can create 1,000 cranes your wish will come true.

Sumo wresting is a favorite Japanese sport. Two very very big men try to push the other out of the ring, the one still inside the ring is the winner!!!

The Japanese eat a lot of fish, rice, soup called miso and vegetables. Many people eat a popular dish called sushi. Sushi is raw uncooked fish, very delicious…

Lets learn some Japanese words Hello - Konnichiwa. (kon-nee- chee-WAH) Fine, thank you - Genki desu. (GEN- kee dess) Thank you - Dōmo arigatō. (doh-moh ah- ree-GAH-toh) Yes - Hai. (HIGH) Excuse me - Sumimasen. (soo-mee-mah- sen) I'm sorry - Gomen-nasai. (goh-men- nah-sigh)
