STUDENT SELF-CONCEPT & STANDARDIZED TESTING Topic The topic of this inquiry is the affects of standardized testing. Purpose The purpose of this inquiry is to determine if standardized testing affects the self concept of a student who struggles with test taking.

STUDENT SELF-CONCEPT & STANDARDIZED TESTING Context Urban elementary school. 3 First Grade students who struggle in testing situations within a ~20 student classroom. Diverse Socioeconomic Background. Teacher utilizes traditional teaching style.

STUDENT SELF-CONCEPT & STANDARDIZED TESTING Data Collection Literature Review Teacher Interview Student Self-Assessments Student Interviews Data Analysis Examine the difference between the self- assessments pre and post test. Analyze interview data to compare to self-assessment.

STUDENT SELF-CONCEPT & STANDARDIZED TESTING Timeline of Inquiry Literature Review. Interviews with a teacher about students who are academically strong but struggle with test taking. Student self-assessment on self-concept. Student completes a standardized test. Student self-assessment on self-concept. Interview with students to get greater detail on self-assessment.

Will identified students be negatively affected by being singled out? Social Significance If self concept is negatively affected what steps can we put in place to mediate this effect.
