2. Dates to save: December 23rd-January 3rd: Winter Break ***SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION on Monday, January 4 th January 25 th : No School - Conferences (12 – 8) January 28 th : Conferences (4-8)

3. Corrected Papers Folder Corrected papers will come home each week – typically on Monday. Take a peek at the papers and review any mistakes. Keep all papers at home except the parent sheet. Sign the parent sheet and return it with the folder the next school day. If there are no papers in the folder, indicate that in the comments section and continue to sign it. A checkmark in the corner indicates that it has been seen/corrected by me.

4. Reading Packets During the first few months of school, we have been practicing reading skills in what we call our “pink packet”. Beginning this week, we will be sending the completed packets home in the corrected papers folder. Only the pages circled were the ones that needed to be completed by the student. If the page shows TIC at the top of the page, it means we did it “Together In Class”. Any incomplete pages will be marked on the first page.

5. Art Bags Please remember to return the art bags if you have not done so already! We will begin filling it up again!

6. Conferences are coming up soon! Schedules are listed on our class website. I will be sending confirmation slips home soon. Please let me know if you would like to reschedule.

7. Outside Recess It is important to send appropriate outdoor attire for your child. We will be going outside everyday unless it rains or there is a significant wind-chill. Please make sure you label everything that comes to school. Many clothing items will be similar (if not the same). Thank you in advance for helping us sort out our winter weather clothing.

8. January Birthdays We will celebrate your child’s birthday here at school If you decide to send store bought treats or goodies please send 24 of them. If it's a weekend day we will celebrate the Friday before or Monday after. We will also celebrate ½ birthdays. If this doesn’t work for you we can celebrate it in May. Please let me know which day you will choose if it falls on the weekend or holiday break. ½ Birthdays: 7 th – Crosby 9 th – Brita 17 th – Alexis 18 th - Carson 24 th - Jack

11. Spelling Words: that, then, this, them, with, bath, tenth, thick *little, *where Your child will also be asked to write a sentence with some of these words in them in addition to words that follow the spelling pattern.

14. Word of the Week Extra: Each week, your child can receive a sticker for their sticker book by writing down our special word/phrase of the week along with a parent signature. This word also helps me to know that you have seen the newsletter! They love stickers! Word of the week: Happy New Year

15. Family Journals Family Journals are due each Monday. Please use the next empty page to complete your response to your child. I also encourage you to use the letter format to allow your child to see and experience that format.

16. General Homework Expectations Mondays: Spelling words and word wall words will come home (practice these words to be ready for the spelling test on Friday Wednesdays: Wednesday work: students complete the comprehension page as well as practice reading the words on the opposite side. When you feel your child is confident in knowing the words and has completed the comprehension page, please return it to the classroom. It is due by the following Tuesday at the latest. Monday through Friday: Math homework will be sent home each day, except Wednesdays. I expect each page to come back the following day.

18. Volunteering The media center is also looking for volunteers to help shelve books. In the past, some parents have volunteered in the library right before coming to our room to volunteer. Please contact them beforehand to see if they have an available opening. Thank you for ALL your help! We couldn’t do it without you!!!
