2 Alan Bross MICE CM - RAL November 6, 2009 We want to Procure: An instrumented LiH disc (30 cm diameter, 4 cm thick) for measuring thermal properties Two small (1.25” diameter X 0.25” thick) samples for radiation stability tests One or Two LiH discs (50 cm diameter, 6.5 cm thick) u For use in MICE Step III.1 LiH Discs

4 Alan Bross MICE CM - RAL November 6, 2009 Y12 is producing the LiH Produced by Hot Isostatic Pressing (150 o C, 30,000 psi) u Will use existing mold Final parts will be u Tested for Chemical composition and purity u Radio-graphed to ensure no voids u Machined to size u Dimensional inspection u Coated with epoxy completely Y12 National Security Complex

11 Alan Bross MICE CM - RAL November 6, 2009 Procurement The PO has been in place since June u However, progress @ Y12 has been delayed Current Schedule u Week of Thanksgiving (11/23) will “Press a Log” u Machine parts 11/30-12/14 u Apply Parylene coating s There is some risk here due to the death of an engineer in charge of re-commissioning the coating equipment u Final QC 1/18/10-2/1/10 u Ship to Fermilab by 2/15/10
