Food Chain

The flow of energy from one organism to the next and to the next organism. Organisms in a food chain are grouped into trophic level.

Producers are the beginning of a simple food chain. Producers are plants and vegetables

All the organisms that cannot make their own food (and need producers) There are three catogory of consumer :  Herbivores  Carnivores  Omnivores

Herbivores Carnivores Omnivores

Consumers are the next link in a food chain. Animals who eat plants are primary consumers called herbivores.

Carnivores are consumers that feed on herbivores. examples of secondar consumers - mice, - birds, - fish

Eat the primary consumers. Secondary consumers are also called carnivores. Carnivore means "meat eater."

A high-level consumer, which is usually the top predator in an ecosystem and/or food chain. Example:-Mountain lions, hawks, and eagles.

The last links in the chain are the decomposers. Decomposers are consumers that break down dead plants and animals. They return materials stored in dead plants and animals to the soil, water, and air. Then green plants use the materials to make food.

An energy pyramid is a graphical model of energy flow in a community. In most communities, only 10-15% of the energy absorbed by a trophic level is passed on to the next.

 Food chain always starts with producers!!!  Green plants are the only things that make their own food, so they are called PRODUCERS.
