Production Team The director and producer work closely with the design team. Design Team-those who will design and coordinate the production’s set, props, lighting, sound, and costumes Together these people form the production team

Production Manager/Producer The person who oversees the business details of a theatrical production. Responsible for financial success and failure of a show Financial management skills are crucial The producer must be able to assess both the artistic merit and commercial potential of a play Must be able to predict the audience’s reception of a particular play Hires and fires the artistic team or designers Can shape the overall artistic vision of the play

Stage Manager The director’s technical liaison backstage during rehearsals and performance Jobs Attend and run production meetings Assist the director Prepare and maintain rehearsal space Coordinate tech rehearsals Run tech rehearsals Call performances Provide information to actors

Director Must develop a production concept. This will provide: Boundaries of a set Define acting areas Determine entrances and exits Specify characteristics of acting areas Place scenery, furniture, and props where actors can move around them Mood Theme Environment

Set Designer The person who develops the concept for and designs a set Provides design to set construction crew Set design is the hub around which all other aspects of the production design revolve. Aware of: Period Environment Mood Theme Additional information from the director

Designer Presentation Find an example or key person for your area of design Their professional background Education and Theaters they worked in How they influenced or made an impact on their area of design A list of shows they have done One visual/audio representation Cite your sources!

Properties Master Manages the prop crew Prop crew is in charge of gathering and organizing props Props may be rented, borrowed, bought, or built Props include: Anything the actors handle onstage Furniture Other items used to enhance the set

Lighting Designer Decides what kind of lights are needed, where to focus them, and when to turn them on. The lighting crew places them and runs them during the show Set designers may envision specific lighting but it is up to the lighting designer for lights to be hung and what specific colors are used Aware of: Ground plan Location Mood Time of day

Costume Designer Design costumes or selects them from rental spaces Works closely with the actors to determine movement needs Must be aware of: Character style and personality Mood Design and style of the era Character relationships

Sound Designer Decides what kinds of music and sound effects are needed and whether they should be live or recorded Sound crew is responsible for collecting, preparing, and running the sound for a performance. Fulfills three distinct functions Amplifies speech Provides special effects Supplies music to enhance the mood and meaning of a play Aware of: Mood Era Special needs
