Problem Solving Ms. Davis With the assistance of Mr. Sims September 19, 2014
3
Draw the picture Write an equation 2 (times the body) plus body = 18 inches 2x + x (with x =body) Gives you 3x=18 divide left by 3 and right by 3 Body is 6 inches
7
Using the table strategy table how many customers at the start of the route table that you add 3 new customers each week stop tabling when you reach double what you started with Answer is 7 weeks
9
Solve by drawing a picture and then counting the posts
11
Set up the table to show when you put in 2 nickels you put in 1 penny. Then table how many coins will be in after each deposit. If you see the pattern then multiply to find your answer for the end table column.
13
Work backwards Subtract the total time spent at stops Divide miles by speed to find out five hours train was moving and subtract five hours
19
Find out what we know and what we need to know first. Chart the start time and start miles Each hour miles increase by 55 mile Keep charting till you reach 600 miles and that time is the answer to the question
21
Manipulate the shape to break each area into small shapes like A since you know the Mass of block A as 6 grams. It would take 8 boxes to fill Shape B. 6 x 8 = 48 grams
23
In class we used: Guess and Check Guessed 6 for width Substituted in with w=6 2l + 2w = 40 Length is w + 4 so length would be 10 Plug in numbers 2(10) + 2(6)= 20 +12 = 32 NO In class we used: Guess and Check Guessed 8 for width Substituted in with w=8 2l + 2w = 40 Length is w + 4 so length would be 12 Plug in numbers 2(12) + 2(8)= 24 +16 = 40 YES Need larger number
25
Chart Know: birthday day after tomorrow Tuesday was day before yesterday Need to know: day of birthday, need to know yesterday and today Yesterday was Wednesday because day before that was Tuesday so today is Thursday Tomorrow will be Friday so the day after that is Saturday Birthday on Saturday
