What are forensic science? What are scenes of crime officers? How would scenes of crime officers investigate this type of crime?

Unit 3 task A burglary has happen in a remote part of Risca. You are going to take over the role of the forensic investigator. All the samples have been taken and sent for analysis.

The Suspect A green van was seen moving away from the crime scene. The registration has been checked and the owner arrested

Task 1- Vocational Application Research the role of a forensic scientist Look for examples of other similar crimes that have occurred in the area Explain how they would proceed to solve the crime.

Task 2 The plan Write a plan Remember to include Plans are written in the future tense Time scale Which test you are going to carry out and why Risk Assessment completed for all physical, chemical and biological hazards How will you record results

Task 3 Get Results Decide how you are going to collect Carry out practical safely, accurately and precisely.

Task 4 – Draw Conclusions Process, calculate and use your results to draw conclusions E.g. Calculate the refractive index of glass from the crime scene and suspect. Identify the glass and suggest if the evidence suggests that the suspect has been at the crime scene.

Task 5 Overall Conclusions Write a letter to the chief constable explaining what conclusions can be draw from the evidence.

Task 6 - Evaluation Describe what has worked well Describe how you could improvement you experiment and why these improvements will improve precision accuracy and reliability.

Vocational Setting If this had really happened how would the SOCO’s and forensic scientists have carried out the tests What would they have been testing for ? How would they test for it?
