She was a Samaritan woman (4:6-9, 27) – “For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.” – We must overcome whatever prejudices we may have in order to “preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Race (Acts 10:28; Gal. 3:28) Economic Status (James 2:1-4; John 7:24) Social Standing (Luke 5:29-30)

She was a very immoral woman (4:16-19) – She had been married five times! (Matt. 19:3-9) – Currently was living in sin with a man (Heb. 13:4) – Gospel is for all (Mark 16:15) and its power can convert and transform any sinner (Romans 1:16)! – “Such were some of you” (I Corinthians 6:9-11)

She was a religious woman (4:7-15, 19-26) – Requested Jesus provide her with living water John 4:15; 6:35; Matt. 5:6 – Perceived Jesus to be a prophet John 4:19, 29 – Inquired about the proper place to worship John 4:20-24 – Possessed knowledge of the coming Messiah John 4:25-26

She left her water pot (4:28) – The original purpose for why she came to the well did not matter anymore to her (John 4:5-7). – When the Samaritan women left, she had only one thing on her mind, Christ! Peter, Andrew, James and John left their nets, boat, and father to follow Jesus (Mt. 4:20-22). Levi left all to follow Jesus (Luke 5:27-28). What and who are we willing to leave to follow Jesus (Matt. 19:29)?

She told others about Jesus (4:28-30, 39-42) – What if she had kept these matters to herself? “Many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman.” – What if we keep the “good news” to ourselves? Romans 10:15; Acts 8:4 – “Come and see” (4:29; 1:46). Brethren, we never know where a simple invitation may lead.
