Lab Safety In order to work in a science laboratory we MUST learn the rules of the lab. Please copy what follows on a blank sheet of paper to be handed in!

1. Always READ THROUGH a lab before beginning.

2. Always FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS, paying close attention to any potential dangers in the activity.

3. NEVER perform unauthorized tasks.

4.A lab is a place where long hair should be tied back and loose clothes should be secured. Be aware that clothing could be dirtied or ruined.

5.Laboratory equipment can be dangerous. Treat it with care and inform teacher if anything appears incorrect. If anything breaks INFORM THE TEACHER. You will never be reprimanded for an accident.

6.NEVER RUN. NEVER THROW THINGS. NO "HORSE PLAY”. 7.NEVER SMELL, TASTE, or TOUCH CHEMICALS without direct instruction to do so.

8.Be careful and follow instructions when handling glassware or sharp objects like dissection instruments.

9.Discard materials where instructed. DO NOT LEAVE MATERIALS IN SINK OR FLUSH SOLIDS DOWN DRAIN!

10.Identify and become familiar with the following safety features of the lab: - The exits - The fire extinguisher - The emergency shower - The fire blanket - The eyewash station

11.CLEAN YOUR AREA AND PUT AWAY ALL MATERIALS WHEN DONE!
