What is a Wiki? A wiki is a “quick” easy-to-use web page that multiple people can edit. What’s a wiki good for? Group projects Individual student projects Portfolios Sharing of resources and links Keeping students, parents and other teachers informed Classroom calendar

What’s a good site to use? pb wiki is a free, easy to use site. It takes 30 seconds to create and no knowledge of html is necessary; you and your class can start using it in less than 5 minutes! The only thing you need to get started is a valid email address. To get started, go to: pbwiki.com

Who controls the content? Whoever has the password to your wiki can edit it. An email will be sent to you when changes are made indicating who made the changes so you can check the content and make changes, if necessary.

Can I make my wiki public or private? Yes, you can make your wiki public or private. No matter what you choose, a password is always required to edit the wiki which means that only your trusted group can make changes to your wiki.

Can I attach pictures or video clips? Yes. In fact, you can attach any type of file to any page in your wiki. Just click the “Files” button. Pictures can be copied and pasted directly to the site by right clicking and selecting “Allow access.”

Is my data safe? Yes. Data is backed up hourly by pbwiki. Different versions of pages are saved so you can revert to an earlier version if desired.

Sign Up 1.Choose a site name. 2.Add your email address 3.Complete “tell us about your wiki. Select: Create my wiki!

Check your Email Follow the directions on the email from pb wiki to activate your site. You may need to check your “junk mail.”

Just 3 more steps 1. Choose a Password (invite key) 2.Choose Public or Private 3.Agree to Terms of Service Select: Next: Choose wiki features.

Choose wiki features You can choose to upgrade but I just use the free version. Select: No thanks, just take me to my wiki.

Here’s your wiki! Be sure to write down your address so you and your students can find your wiki later!!!

To link a page to the SideBar 1.Type in page name. 2. Select: Link

1. Link Type: WikiPage 2. Link to wiki page: choose the name of the page in dropdown box. 3. Link text: Name of page on sidebar (doesn’t need to be changed.2 Select: OK and Save on editing page

Linking Word Files to Sidebar or on another wiki page 1. Browse for file. 2. Select file. 3. Select: Upload and press OK.
