The Upper Class By the early 1900s, there were several hundred wealthy Af-Ams Doctors, lawyers, & businessmen Ugly Club – social club open only to New York City’s wealthiest black men Boulé – exclusive organization open to male college graduates. (a.ka. Sigma Pi Phi, or Sigma Pi Beta).

Fraternities & Sororities Alpha Phi Alpha – first Greek letter black fraternity, began at Cornell in 1906. Chapters soon began at Michigan, Yale, Columbia, & Ohio State Alpha Kappa Alpha – first black sorority, began at Howard Univ in 1908

Sororities – Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho Fraternities – Phi Beta Sigma, Kappa Alpha Psi, Iota Phi Theta, Omega Psi Phi Objectives - scholarship, social grace, friendship, community involvement
