English Composition Tips for Success Prof. Maria Schofer
2
Make the Most of Class Come to class regularly. Make attendance a priority. Come prepared with assignments done, both reading or writing. Engage in class discussion. Make an impression on both your classmates and your professor. Remember to bring your flash drive to save your work, but also save your work elsewhere (such as in your email inbox).

College Etiquette Respect each other’s opinions in both your comments and facial expressions/body language. Side-bar conversations are not appropriate. Use your computer only for class assignments. Facebooking, texting or other distractions should not be done in class. Please make sure to turn any electronic devices to silent operation. Discussing grades is not considered appropriate in a public venue.

Outside of Class Read any assignments well in advance. Think about your readings analytically. Write the rough draft and take time to revise for the final draft. Revision is not simply correcting the grammar. Figure out what makes one essay “superior” over another. This comes through reading many examples, including student essays. Connect with a classmate. If you must be absent get notes from, or send in assignments through, the classmate.
