Introducing the function … y = 4x

Let’s Evaluate! xy -4enter -2in 0your 2y-values 4here!

Domain & Range The domain for my function table is: {,,,, } The range for my function table is: {,,,, }

Let’s Graph! ( note: you may delete this slide at the end) Open up the virtual graphing calculator on your computer. Graph your function. When you have the line showing on your screen, take the following steps: 1. Right-click your mouse somewhere on the calculator. Choose the steps like the ones shown below:

Let’s Graph! 2. Click somewhere in this text box that you’re reading so that the dashed border is showing. In a moment, you will press Control V. This will automatically insert your graph from the calculator screen! Make sure to drag the corners outward to make it bigger. And feel free to delete the previous slide! Now are you ready? … Press Control V!

Let’s Solve! These ordered pairs ARE solutions: These ordered pairs are NOT solutions: (-1, -4)(-3, 12)(3, 12)(4, 1) Click on each ordered pair, and then drag it into the correct box!

Let’s Determine Function Rules! The machine that matches my function is machine __. y = _________

What Have I Done? I evaluated my function for f(-4), f(-2), f(0), f(2), & f(4). I entered these values into a function table. I identified the domain and range for my table. I graphed the function on my graphing calculator, and inserted the graph into this presentation. I determined some ordered pairs that are solutions to the function, and some ordered pairs that are not solutions. I determined the function rule for three different function machines, and found the one that matches my function. I have become a Fantastic Function Solver!
