2. Biography Abraham Lincoln was born February 12 th 1809 and died April 15 th, 1865 at age 56. He was voted into office March 4, 1861 and left office March 3, 1865. He is the second child of Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. President Lincoln married Mary Todd, and had four children named; Robert, Edward, William, Tad. President Lincoln was preceded by James Buchanan and succeeded by Andrew Johnson.

He signed the Homestead Act which allowed settlers have 165 acres if they agreed to farm for five years.
