Classifying Organisms into Different Kingdoms

Is a nucleus present? No = Prokaryote- [ “Pro” means before “karyote” means kernel/capsule] - DNA not contained in a membrane Yes = Eukaryote- [ “Eu” means true “karyote” means kernel/capsule] -genetic material [DNA]enclosed in a membrane

How many cells are present? Only one cell= unicellular More than one = multicellular Streptococcus = strep throat

Does it move? Yes = can change from one location to another at some point during life cycle

Does it make its own food? Yes = Autotrophic or Producer [“Auto” means self “trophic” means food/feeding] - able to make its own food No = Heterotrophic or Consumer [“Hetero” means different “trophic” means food/feeding] - relies on other organisms for nutrients

Characteristics of the Five Kingdoms - YouTube
