Capturing the Art Class: Use of the Document Camera to enhance the Visual Arts experience.
2
Introduction Welcome to my art room! As you enter my art room you will see many ways that learning is achieved through visual media. In the center of the classroom sits my “technology table” that houses my document camera, LCD projector, laptop, and any other tools I may need.
3
Teacher Use I use my document camera to project everything that I need the students to see as a whole class. This allows me to conduct a whole class demonstration with very little energy dispersed!! (Which is great at my 9 months pregnant state! =)
4
Student Use I also use the document camera so that students can display their own process in painting or other artwork. This makes their achievements even more rewarding as they can see their own hands moving in such a large scale!! I also have the choice of capturing the image to send home.

Figure Drawing! Integrating the document camera within a lesson was a breeze! In this figure drawing lesson, we rotated the camera lens and captured still images of students posing in the front of the class. We then projected the image onto the white board and learned how to draw figures in different poses. The students loved to see themselves on the screen!!

Zooming In!! In this Abstract appreciation lesson, students were able to appreciate the art of abstraction. When we discussed how some abstract work came from simple, everyday objects that has been enlarged, we were able to use the zoom feature of the document camera to create our own abstract art. Students arranged their own everyday art materials and zoomed in until they reached a desired effect. Some even chose to set objects at unconventional angles for an even better result!!
