Dinki Mini is of African origin. From the Congolese word ‘ndingi’- lamentation or funeral song. It is also known as gerreh. (tacky) It is a mixture of song and dance. Dinkies are celebratory occasions.

Dinki Mini was practiced openly throughout slavery. It is usually performed after the death of a person, and up until the ninth night after the death. It is usually done outdoors at the home of the deceased.

A ritual is held to send off mature the spirits. (rock of ages) Entails the tying of the deceased and taking his or her mattress to the cross roads.

The dance is doe to a mento type of music. Focuses on the pelvic region. The dancers, male and female, make suggestive rotations with the pelvis. It is usually done in couples.
