9 Srila Prabhupada tells us why he is translating Srimad Bhagavatam and introduces Lord Chaitanya, the ideal preacher of Srimad Bhagavatam. Then Sages give Suta Goswami a proper seat and ask him what is the essence of Dharma, the current shelter of religion etc. He answers and concludes that Srimad Bhagavatam is the current incarnation of God. They ask why, after writing all the Vedas Srila Vyasadeva wrote the Srimad Bhagavatam. This came from the meeting of Vyasa with Narada Muni. Deciding to tell the Srimad Bhagavatam to the Sages, Suta Goswami, begins with the antecedents, the birth of Maharaja Pariksit and the retiring of the Pandavas, but he also amplifies the conditions at the time of Maharaja Pariksit’s birth, such as the passing away of Bhismadeva. and returning to Maharaja’s birth he then describes the passing of Dhrtarastra and the Pandavas, and then much later how Maharaja Pariksit ruled and this led to his meeting Sukadeva Goswami.
