ACTS 2:40-42 THE SAVED MUST CONTINUE STEADFASTLY

To continue steadfastly indicates the earnest zeal to be actively present in the new man. The words “continued steadfastly” are translated from one Greek word. proskartereo – “be strong towards” To endure in, persevere in Christians are to give themselves entirely to doing the works of God (cf. Eph. 2:10).

Steadfastly continue in the apostles’ doctrine (teaching). Beware of doctrines of men (Gal. 1:8-9). Give constant attention to what Christ’s apostles taught and wrote. Teaching from the Lord (John 16:13-14; 1 Cor. 14:37; 2 John 9).

Steadfastly continue in the apostles’ doctrine (teaching). Listen, receive, learn, retain and act upon it. Be doers (Matt. 7:24; Jam. 1:22). Read (Eph. 3:3-4). Study (2 Tim. 2:15). Receive instruction, exhortation, reproof and correction (1 Tim. 4:13, 16; Heb. 10:25).

Steadfastly continue in fellowship. Spiritual fellowship produced by the apostles’ doctrine. Joint participation in Christ, effective harmony in the body, shared efforts in the Lord’s prescribed work and worship.

Steadfastly continue in fellowship. Continually devote yourselves: To walking in the light (1 Jn. 1:7). To assembling with saints (Heb. 10:25). To admonishing in spiritual songs (Col. 3:15-16). To ministering needy saints (2 Cor. 8:1-4). To spreading and supporting the gospel (Phil. 1:3-7; 4:15; 1 Thess. 1:8)

Steadfastly continue in the breaking of bread. Verse 42 refers to a “breaking of bread” in keeping with the apostles’ doctrine – a spiritual meal. The Lord’s Supper is a spiritual memorial meal (1 Cor. 11:23-26). Christians came together to share in this communion (1 Cor. 11:20, 33). They assembled on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7).

Steadfastly continue in prayers. Apostles exhorted Christians to pray (1 Thess. 5:16-18). Be occupied continually with fervent prayers (Jam. 5:16). Make your requests known to God in prayer (Phil. 4:6-7).
