The Danger of Reading In Europe the only Christian church that existed in the beginning of the 1500’s was Catholic Church. Church leaders were the only people who could read the scriptures Problems arise when the Bible is mass produced and translated into the vernacular

Protestant Reformation Begins Protestants: Any religious group that breaks off of the Catholic Church Once Martin Luther survives at the Diet of Worms many start to break away Sacraments: 7 specific ordinances that the Catholic Church practiced in order to gain salvation Baptism Communion (taking bread and whine) Mass (regular church attendance) Etc

John Calvin After Luther broke many follow Predestination The “Elects” Salvation through Grace Attacks transubstantiation

Henry the VIII Henry was the King of England who had one big problem.... He couldn’t have a son Tries to get a divorce but the pope says no Creates his own church so he can have a divorce Anglican church was similar to the Catholic Church but the head of the church was the King of England

Catholics Make a Comeback! - Counter Reformation - Ignatius Loyola - Military man turned missionary - Starts the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order) - Council of Trent - Accepts the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) - Try to prove the Catholic church is true - Try to prove the Protestant churches are false
