OLYMPIC MOTTO and CREED MOTTOCITIUS-ALTIUS-FORTIUS FASTER-HIGHER- STRONGER CREED “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”

The HISTORY of the OLYMPICS The modern Winter and Summer Olympics were first held in Sweden and were called the Nordic Games. In the winter Olympics there are winter games, in the summer Olympics there are summer games. The winter games are on ice or snow.

MIGA My favuorite mascot is Miga because she loves to surf. Miga is a sea bear. Sea bears are half killer whale and half bear. Miga is a rare kermode bear. When she first tried to transform she got stuck between bear and killer whale and therefore is half of each. Her favorite food is salmon and her favorite colour is forest green. Miga’s dream is to do a 270 half pike on a snowboard in ONE DAY! (I would be to scared!) Miga is a great mascot! I am most like Miga. I am most like Miga because she loves to surf and I want to be a awesome surfer one day. I watch a lot of shows with surfers in them so I want to be just like them.

I’ve heard of people having sidekicks BUT I did not know mascots had them! The Olympic Games have three mascots and they have a sidekick-Mukmuk who is a Vancouver Island marmot. The mascots make live appearances but Mukmuk is only seen in cyberspace. Some people started an online petition for him to be an official mascot but it failed. I guess Mukmuk is stuck! Anyways, some of Mukmuk’s favourite things to do are eating, sunbathing, eating, sleeping and EATING! He likes to eat. Mukmuk’s name comes from the word “Muckamuck”. It comes from the Squamish language. Mukmuk’s name means food because he LOVES to EAT! Sadly, Mukmuk is a extremely rare and endangered species. His dream is to tell the world about his fellow marmots.

The Olympic Torch is a symbol of peace and friendship. This year, the year of 2010, has the longest domestic torch relay ever! The Olympic Torch Relay started in Victoria, BC and then traveled across Canada and back. The torch was lit by the sun in Greece before it was handed over to Canadian officials on October 29, 2009.

2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Logo based on Inuit Inukshuk The Olympic 2010 Olympic logo is the Inukshuk. It was chosen from 1,600 entries from all over Canada!! The Inukshuk is a symbol of the culture, environment, and the people of Canada. The Inuit Inukshuk was a stone marker used by the Inuit people. For centuries, the Inuit people have used it to guide them along the Arctic terrain. The Inukshuk has five stones with five clours. The red shows the Canadian maple leaf. The gold shows the brilliant sunrises in Vancouver. The blue and green shows the forests and the mountains. It also has a smile, to show happiness.
