Why are we developing SLO plans? Tied to SACS Accreditation SACS = Southern Association of Colleges & Schools 10-year accrediting cycle SACS accredits the entire institution, not individual programs Focus of SACS review-compliance review & QEP Part of compliance review- assessing student learning outcomes at the program level Over 90% of colleges get cited by SACS on SLO requirement
3
What is SACS Looking for? Develop and assess outcomes at the program level Majority should be SLO’s=what students are able to: Know (cognitive) Think (attitudinal) Do (behavioral) as a result of the educational program Required Documentation: Define intended outcomes (3-5) Identify methods for assessing outcomes Assess outcomes annually Collect results & review results to make decisions regarding program improvement
