2 Events Talks, writing workshops and book signings by visiting author, Alex Scarrow Talks, artist workshop and book signings by Manga illustrator, Sonia Leong Story-telling by actress and teacher, Alma Simpson Readathon – a sponsored reading event for all students in Years 7 and 8 A Scholastic Book fair – the opportunity to buy the latest titles from a variety of authors and poets, as well as stationery and posters Reading games and activities to introduce you to new writers and their work

4 Sonia Leong Based in Cambridge, UK. Professional comic artist and illustrator. Specialises in Manga and Anime style. She works in a variety of mediums including watercolour, pen and ink, screentone, alcohol colour markers, pencils and computer software. Her artwork has appeared in comic books, graphic novels, instructional art books, films and television programmes.

5 Alex Scarrow Based in Norwich, UK. Author and Graphic Artist. Writes adult thrillers, screenplays and novels for younger readers Launched his TimeRiders series in 2010 The latest novel, TimeRiders: Gates of Rome, is due for release in February 2012

6 ‘Readathon’ ‘Readathon’ is a sponsored read which raises money for two charities CLIC Sargent helps children with cancer The Roald Dahl Foundation helps children with epilepsy, blood diseases, visual impairment and brain disorders

8 Scholastic Book Fairs ‘Scholastic’ is a company which specialises in books for teenagers and children The fair will be in the library on Wednesday 7 th December until Friday 9 th December, with a huge choice of books, stationery and posters for you to have a look at and buy After school, on Thursday, there is also a tea party for invited students and their families.

9 Get Involved! You will all have the opportunity to hear at least one of our visitors speak about their work and ask them questions Some of you will be invited to attend one of our special workshops, led by a visiting author or illustrator, to get top tips to improve your own writing/ artwork All of Years 7 and 8 will take part in the Readathon and raise money in English lessons by being sponsored to read a book of your choice You will all take part in a variety of reading games and activities in your English lessons during the week You will all have the opportunity to buy books from the Scholastic Book Fair and also from our visitors who will autograph them for you – so don’t forget your money!
