3 * Kansas became a state in 1861

4 * Kansas is made up of farmland, flat grasslands, prairies, and some cities * Its natural resources include, oil, natural gas, helium, gypsum, and salt * Its industry and farming include, cattle, wheat, soybeans, hogs, corn

5 * Joan Finney was the first female governor of Kansas she was also the oldest * Marilyn Monroe was the star of the movie “Some Like it Hot”

6 * 1930- Clyde Tombaugh discovered the planet Pluto. * 1952- Dwight D. Eisenhower was the first native of Kansas to be elected President of the United States. * 1954- Thurgood Marshall won his case Brown vs Board of Education of Topeka.

7 * There were four major battles in the Civil War fought in Kansas. These included: The Lawrence Massacre, The Baxter Springs Massacre, Battle of the Osage, and Battle of the Trading Post.

8 * Kansas’ Climate is highly changeable with cold winters and hot summers.
