Patriot Week Day Four By: Jack, Kevin and Elias

Intro In this presentation you will learn about gender equality. It gives equal rights to woman and men. The leaders for this movement are Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. Neither lived for the 19 th Amendment to be passed. The 19th Amendment gives women the right to vote. We will also explain how the Suffragists Flag shows the women’s struggle to get it passed. At the end you will take a quiz. We will explain why and how women where fighting for gender rights.

Gender Equality Equality is a First Principle of Americas free government. The First Principle requires all people are treated equality. Yet about half American women didn’t have the same treatment. They got it from the 19 th Amendment and many demonstrations.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born in Johnstown, New York on November 12, 1815. She was a leading spokesperson for woman's suffering. She met Lucretia Mott a Quaker Minister. Elizabeth and Lucretia held a woman’s rights conference together. Elizabeth died on October 26, 1902 Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a leader for woman’s rights.

Susan B. Anthony Susan B. Anthony was a leading spokesperson for women’s suffrage and equality. She was born in Adams, Massachusetts on February 15, 1820. In the early 1850s she began to focus on women’s suffrage and equality. She soon joined with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and they formed the National Women’s Suffrage Association in 1869. She died in 1906.

The 19 th Amendment The 19 th amendment states that all citizens of the United States have the right to vote and it shall not be denied no matter what gender. Congress will have the power to enforce this article.

Seneca Falls Declaration A part of The Seneca Falls Declaration: All of us hold truths to be self-evident: That we are equal and created equal. That they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights. In history men were thought to be better then women which is not true. Women didn’t have a voice in politics. The majority of the document was written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

Suffragists Flag The Suffragists Flag was created by the National Woman’s Party in 1919. It was created to symbolize their struggles to drive the 19 th amendment (which gives woman the right to vote.) They made a star on the flag for every state that voted for the amendment. They used the flag in parades and demonstrations. The 19 th amendment was finally passed.
