I believe service learning is learning about all aspects of one’s community while helping it and making a difference at the same time.
3
Increased access to the range of supports and opportunities they need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. Increased sense of self-efficacy, as young people learn that they can impact real social challenges, problems, and needs. Higher academic achievement and interest in furthering their education. Enhanced problem-solving skills, ability to work in teams, and planning abilities. Enhanced civic engagement attitudes, skills and behaviors.

Community Service not only helps out your Community but it helps you grow as a person!

Adopt a Highway is just one of the community service projects I was involved in during my freshman year at Valdosta State. Adopt a Highway is a trash removal project where several people get orange vests and pick up garbage along the side of a road

These are just a couple of pictures I got while picking up trash along the side of Patterson Street

This year I was involved in the Relay for Life fundraiser Valdosta held on campus in the Spring. Relay for life gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
8
Thousands of people from around the country come to support and honor those who have been effected by cancer

Last Fall, all the Freshmen Year Experience classes came together and held a Halloween themed dance for the mentally handicapped adults that live at the Normal Life of Georgia institution. The dance was a lot of fun and everyone had a good time.

Community service not only helped me grow as a person, but it also gave me an opportunity to help my community grow as a whole.
