2 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Successes: 1.Academic portion 2.Number of students in K-2 that attended Early Start, 90 students per grade level 3.Nonfiction text from the National Geographic Kits 4.Resources Literacy Coaches organized 5.Student enrollment increased (from 2013)

Reading Consultant's prep work to support Dig Deeper Theme 8. Full day program, with academics and enrichment classes, offered to students in grades 5-8 along with two meals each day

4 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Successes: 9. Hardworking, collaborative and flexible staff, including Facilities, Clerical and SSS department 10. Staff focus still on academic growth despite obstacles (transportation, transitions) 11. This was the most successful early start program that this school has implemented in recent memory. 12. Agri-Science Pilot Program (parent feedback)

5 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Not Successful: 1.Leisure Services is the biggest debacle since the Nixon administration. 2.Not enough staff to successfully manage the program 3. 20-25 students in Grades 1 and 2 in one classroom with a teacher. 4.Danger posed during breakfast and lunch with overcrowding 5.Teachers help cover the lunchroom and not get paid or to have student's safety at risk.

Students were grabbed, screamed at, and pulled by staff. Parent complaints for inadequate supervision. 9. Inadequate staffing/resourcing throughout building 10. Issues with transportation

7 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Strategies for Improvement 1.Smaller class sizes to personalize instruction for the needs of our students. 2.Include 1 teacher per 15 students and a program coordinator. 3.Place Monitors on all buses to make sure windows are put down and that students stay in their seats. 4.Adequate support staff to run the lunch room.

8 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Strategies for Improvement 5. Two lunch waves needed for all sites. 6. Extension runs the afternoon program. 7. Switch Food Service Manager as he is not student friendly and has problems with our parents.

9 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Strategies for Improvement 8. Bring back the Lead Teacher position. 9. Add a secretary for summer school full day. 10. Provide a healthy breakfast and lunch. The students need proteins and complex carbs not sugar cereals in the morning.

School based criteria established for acceptance of mandated students including Cycle III data and teacher recommendations, as well as other indicators of growth/motivation

11 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Strategies for Improvement: 13. 1:12 student teacher ratio if remediation is the goal, 1:15 max. 14. Academic and enrichment schedule that provides natural breaks for students (similar to the our regular school schedule). 15. Move Early Start closer to the start of the school year for maximum academic impact

Provide incoming grade 5 students with an orientation to CAIS/Arace prior to the start of Early Start. 17. Clear policy on ESY and the necessary supports in place for all students on IEP's in the program. 18. Consideration of SPED student percentages in each Early Start classroom.

13 BLOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom Strategies for Improvement: 19. If uniforms are required, all students must wear them regardless of parental complaints. 20. Considerations should be made to fund the uniform for those in need.
