NEW ENGINEERING PROGRAMS BUILDING ENGINEERING By Dr. Bahaa Sharaf Tork Unit Head, Building Engineering Program, Associate Prof., Structural Eng. Dept., Ain Shams University
2
OUTLINE What is Building Engineering? Covered Areas of Knowledge. Curriculum Design. Why Building Engineering? Current Situation & Causes. Our Program versus Traditional Ones. Job Opportunities.
3
BUILDING ENGINEERING A program supplying its graduates with knowledge on the Integrated Design of built facilities. Unlike structural, architectural, etc., engineers, Building Engineers can efficiently deal with a Wider Range of problems in the construction industry: Lighting, Acoustics & Indoor Air Quality, Construction Management, HVAC, etc. Efficiently improving the Overall Performance of buildings through their Whole Lifecycle. Providing Energy Efficient buildings. Efficiently contributing to the current national efforts of providing Affordable & Suitable housing for people.

WHY BUILDING ENG.? Deficiencies in Performance, Operation and Maintenance of buildings. CURRENT SITUATION & CAUSES Lack of Integration between the different engineering branches involved in design & construction.
15
WHY BUILDING ENG.? This program is Not a Duplicate of current programs in Civil / Structural, Architectural or Electro-Mechanical engineering. It is an Interdisciplinary program focused on Integration of Requirements in building design and construction. OUR PROGRAM VERSUS TRADITIONAL ONES
