2 What are we going to describe today? Describe the structural differences between various Forms of Ficton.

3 Share with your partner your favorite movie? Tell them if it’s about adventures or if it’s magical or if it’s real. Partner Share

4 Forms of Fiction are imaginative literature that comes from a writer’s mind. Examples: Cinderella This is a Fantasy. Junie B. Jones- Realistic Fiction A made up story that seems like it could really happen. Non Example: An encyclopedia about horses.

5 Why is it important to know the different structural features of various Forms of Fiction? Makes us better readers and it helps us make better predictions.

6 Some Forms of Fiction are…. Traditional Literature (past down through generations, usually began as oral stories) Fables Tall Tales Fairy Tales Legends/Myths Modern Fantasies -Where animals act like people -Setting in another world or imaginary place -Magic -Characters can have special powers Ex- Harry Potter

7 Traditional Literature Fables Talking animals that act like people teach lesson Tell how things came into being Fairy tales Begins with Once upon a time Good vs. evil Magic Talking objects and animals Sometimes deals with royalty have a happy ending Legends/ Tall Tales Talking animals Exaggeration/ hyperbole Tell how things came in being Teach a lesson Uses supernatural characters or forces to explain nature some times begins with “in the beginning” Myths (past down through generations, usually began as oral stories)

8 Another form of fiction is Realistic fiction can be based on a real story characters act like real people character tries to solve a problem story could happen in real life some events are historically accurate character’s feelings and behaviors are like real life

9 Adventure Stories These stories have A lot of action Many times have heroes that do amazing things Often include an element of danger Sometimes have an element of mystery
