Phases of the moon Describe your understanding of the phases of the moon. What causes these? Is there a pattern? Are these predictable? Can we model these in the classroom?

Model the phases Fold your handout in half, and then in half again. Place it in your shoe until it is needed Glue the table into your science notebook. Entitle the table: moon phases

Materials For each student: One oreo cookie One popsicle stick Pencil Data table

Create the phase using your oreos 1.Don’t break the cookie 2.Use the frosting & the popsicle stick to create the phase (reflected light). 3.Draw each phase in order, before “reusing” the frosting for the subsequent phase. 4.Once your moon table has been created, “get rid of the evidence.”
