Basic Facts of a CSI They oversee and process complex crime scenes Also spend time preparing investigative reports, testifying in court, and continuing their education They occasionally have long working hours and the job itself can be hazardous to their physical and mental state

Required Skills Most employers require degrees in some aspect of law enforcement or some field of chemistry or science Some also require a masters in your degree Must be certified by the International Association for Identification and the Crime Scene Certification Board It is not required, but most CSI’s are sworn police officers before they become CSIs. Although civilians can become CSIs as well.

International Crime Scene Investigators Association (ICSIA) Requirements 720 hrs. of training in crime scene processing 80 hrs. training in latent fingerprint processing 40 hrs. in major death investigation 40 hrs. advanced death investigations 40 hrs. of photography 40 hrs. blood spatter interpretation And other training courses in arson investigation and forensic pathology

Job Availability The availability of jobs within this field depends on the demand for them. But with recent changes in the federal braches, the need for federal officers has grown at an amazing rate. To help you be in better standing for the job you might want to do get into a specific branch of your degree, speak a second language, and/or having the experience of similar jobs, such as a police officer or a criminalist.
