27 THE APPLICATION PROCESS
ILFORD COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL SIXTH FORM OPEN EVENING THE APPLICATION PROCESS See prospectus for full details. Fill in the application form and pass to YOUR school for a reference. This must be with us by 30th January 2015. Shortlisted candidates must then attend an informal meeting. Oversubscription criteria may have to be applied in making this selection.

HOW TO FILL IN THE FORM Fill in the first page in as much detail as possible. Be sure to indicate any short course GCSEs. Do not fill in details of BTECs, DIDA etc. These are not considered. Tick your preferences on the second page. Should you choose Further Maths, then you should only tick 3 subjects. Try to choose reserve options. This will increase your chances. Read the notes carefully.

30 THE OFFER Students must average 8 GCSEs at Grade B, with at least six of those Grades being a B. Numerical equivalent = Average of 6 points (A*=8, A=7, B=6 etc) Examples of GCSE grades that would not receive an offer: 2A*, 1A, 2B, 2C, 1D (Ave= 6.87, but only 5 grades at B or above) 1A, 6B, 1D (Ave=5.88) 6B, 2C (Ave=5.75) Examples of GCSE grades that would receive an offer: 4A*, 3A, 1B (Av=7.37) 3A, 4B, 1C (Av=6.25) 1A, 6B, 1C (Av=6)

OVERSUBSCRIPTION The following courses are regularly oversubscribed: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics Choosing candidates to make offers will then depend upon: Their predicted average points score. Which combination of subjects they have chosen.
