The war of 1812 was the consequence of a several reasons. Chief among them - is the conflict between Russia and France of the continental blockade of England. Participation of Russia in the continental blockade of England had bad influence on the Russian economy. The volume of foreign trade of Russia for the 1808-1812, decreased by 43%. As a result, Alexander I decided to break the blockade.

Another serious reason for the beginning of the war was Tilzitian peace pact (1807), which was disadvantageous for our country. And, the third reason was Napoleon’s desire to invade the whole Europe, and Russia is a part of it.

12 of June 1812 – Napoleon’s troops crossed Russian border – river Neman 4-6 of august – the battle of Smolensk. Napoleon beat Barclay-de-Tolli. Russian army suffered heavy casualties. 26 of august – the battle of Borodino 1 of september – Kutuzov decided to leave Moscow.

The victory over Napoleon as never raised high international prestige of Russia, which played a decisive role at the Congress of Vienna and during the subsequent years has had a decisive influence on the European Affairs.
