Lorain County Community College Elyria, Ohio General, Organic and Biochemistry Course/ Buffet Model Annual Enrollment: 656 On-campus sections increased to 70 seats per section. Internet sections increased from 20 to25 seats per section.

Traditional Course Structure and Goals of the Redesign Traditional Course Structure –Labs required ammonium thiocyanate solution –Expensive purification systems, etc. Redesign Goals/adopted Vernier Software and Tech. –Toxic substances and fumes unnecessary –Interpretable results –Engaging –Scenario based –Simulation enhanced –Inquiry based Mars Rover Radioactivity Lab

Getting Started Administrative support Seek redesign grants/internal and external Know reasons for selecting the course for redesign Select a Team/content expert, timeline, course design, assessment plan –Pre/Post Tests and Parallel Courses Think through the model and course redesign Don’t reinvent the wheel Pilot the course redesign Offer parallel courses during the pilot
