HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND What you can expect from Guidance and Counseling… Counselors will meet with you through your Health or AVID Classes a few times per year, including in the Spring to help you choose your classes for next year. You can meet with a counselor before school, during your snack or lunch or for about 30 minutes after school. The Counseling Office is closed after school on Wednesdays. Your class time is important, so Counselors will not see you during class time unless it a true emergency or crisis.

HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND öThe California High School Exit Exam (CaHSEE) is a graduation requirement. You must pass it at State Standards to receive a diploma. (350 is passing, 380 is proficient) öYou will take the CaHSEE during the second semester in 10 th grade. öThe California High School Exit Exam is tied to the State Standards in Math and English. Your academic classes will help prepare you to pass this exam. The best way to help yourself is to Pay Attention in Class.

HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND For Two Year Community Colleges, Many Trade and Technical Schools and Vocational Colleges, Once You Have Your High School Diploma, They Will Accept You. For Entry Into 4-Year Colleges and Universities, You Must Meet Tougher Standards and Complete Specific Classes and Exams.

HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND What Is The University of California ‘a-g’ Certified Course List? The University of California System approves, and only accepts, certain high school courses for admission to the UC system. The ‘a-g’ stand for certain subject areas: a- HISTORY (U.S. History and Civics) b- ENGLISH c- MATHEMATICS (Algebra 1 and higher) d- LABORATORY SCIENCE e- LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH (LOTE) f- FINE ARTS (drama, music, visual arts, computer arts) g- ADDITIONAL APPROVED ELECTIVE COURSES

HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND Most 4-Year colleges and universities require the SAT Reasoning Test (Scholastic Aptitude Test) or the ACT (American College Testing Service) exam. Plan on taking this test during your Junior year. The Practice SAT (PSAT) can be taken any year but it is offered only once each year, in October. Some schools also require the SAT II subject area tests in 2 or 3 subject areas. Check the requirements for the college of your choice!
