Power -rate at which work is done or amount of work done in a unit of time -The faster work can be done the more power there is Power = work / time or Power = force * distance / time
2
Power con’t UNIT OF POWER Unit for work is JOULE Power is work divided by a unit of time J / s which is called a WATT 1 watt = 1 J / s Watt is a small unit of power Ex. You produce about 1 watt of power if you raise a glass of water To your mouth in 1 second. 1 kw = 1,000 W Ex. A washing machine running for one hour

How to calculate? A crane lift an 8000N beam 75m to the top of a building in 30 s How much power does the crane use? Power = Force * distance (work) / time = 8000N * 75 m / 30 s = 600,000 / 30 s = 20,000 W = 20 kW If the crane lifted the beam in 60 s would the power be increased or decreased? DECREASED
4
Power and Energy -recall work is the transfer of E -When considering both power (work/ time) and E -Power is the rate at which E can be transferred OR transformed from one object to another -Therefore power is NOT limited to moving objects, it is found whenever E is being transferred or transformed

*****SUPERPOWERS***** If I could possess any kind of superpower what would it be and why? -Write a HALF page paper explaining what superpower you would have if you could and why you picked this one -Use in your paper at least eight vocabulary words in your Paper Underline each word (you can use words from p. 26 p.49 and p.72) -Give examples of situations where your superpower would be useful -Vocabulary words should describe what your power is and how it works - Draw yourself as a superhero. ***Remember the general public does not know what these words mean you need to explain the word within your paper.
