WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THE WORLD AT THE TIME Realism started about the mid 1800`s. years following the civil war symbolized a time of healing and rebuilding Started before the industrial revolution.

CHARACTERISTICS Realism is a style that portrays the actuality of what the eye can see. The artwork is shown in a realistic manner, as close to ‘reality’ as possible- the way the subject actually looked. Created not to influence the viewer Everyday people and situations

Bridged the gap between realism and impressionism. Edgar Degas: Famous for his work in painting, sculpting, printmaking, and drawing. In his 80`s, he went blind but still painted.
