2  Work placement must be x30 hours  Problem solving level 3 must be achieved  Problem will be finding a work placement in order to complete 30hrs working with an employer  WJEC Workbook must be used  Workbook must be detailed and signed  Workbook must be supported by a portfolio  Key feature = Planning – Doing - Reviewing

4  Explore the unemployment statistics for 16 – 24 year olds.  Examine different career pathways  Decide on a work placement you would like  Write a letter requesting a placement  Produce a CV  Prepare for your placement  Undertake a practical work experience  Evaluate your experience

5  NEETS = Not employed or in education or training.  Highest in 16-24 age group  These young people are more likely to take drugs, binge drink and commit anti social acts.  Watch the following News clip: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15750105 TASK: Discuss the problem of NEETS as a group, write a paragraph describing why you think young people are unemployed. Provide up to date statistics, facts and figures related to Wales

6  What job would you like to do?  Decide on 3 different jobs  Use the internet to research these jobs. Find out; Wage Training Progression routes

7  What is your problem?  How can you solve it? Identify three different methods. - You can solve it independently - You could rely on someone else to find you a job; Family member/ careers adviser/ TFL - You could use a current part time job. - Can you think of any other ways to complete x30 hrs WRL?  Consider the main features and risks of each method  Choose your method explaining in detail the reasons why

8  How do you intend to solve this problem?  Plan in detail how you will solve the problem. You must include clear deadlines  You must review your progress in the activity log.  You must complete x3 progress checks with your Teacher. Minutes to these progress checks should be recorded and signed in the portfolio

9  Date TBC (GN/KB)  Where do you want to go? Ie Nursery/ Garage etc  Use YELL.COM to find at least x5 possible placements  Write a formal letter to these requesting a placement. Use template letter

11  What if your letter has no response?  How else can you approach employers?  Ensure all evidence is shown in Portfolio

12  What do you want to know before work experience?  What do you need to know?  How will you find out this information?

13  You will have solved your problem when your placement is confirmed.  How can you check you have solved the problem?  Review and evaluate how successful you have been at Problem Solving (Q 11&12)  Complete the Part A Questions

14  This is your opportunity to impress your employer and have a good reference under your belt.  Complete as much of the provided booklet as possible  ENJOY your experience ;0)  REMEMBER You will want a job soon, this is going to be good practice!

15  When you return; - Describe where you went, what sort of employment was it, how many people worked there etc. - Describe some activities you took part in - Explain what skills and qualities you used - Explain what you did well - Explore how you could have improved.
