2. Light Microscopes allow scientists to see objects up to 400x their natural size. Scientists view objects that are on glass slides. There are two types: –Wet Mounts Temporary, short term use, made by the scientist –Dry Mounts Permanent, used several times over a long period of time.

3. Care of a Light Microscope Carry microscopes with two hands and keep it close to your body when you move it. Always keep the microscope straight up and do not tilt it. Most light microscopes have a built in light, although some use lamps in the room as a light source. Never use sunlight as a direct source of light as it is too strong. If you are cleaning a lens, use lens cleaning paper only. Never touch the lens with your fingers.

5. Important Points about Using a Light Microscope Keep both eyes open when looking through the eye piece. Only use the course adjustment when you are using the low-power adjustment. Always focus on low power before shifting to high power

6. Making a Wet Mount Slide (this information is also in your text) Place the item you want to look at on the center of the clean slide. Use a dropper to place one or two drops of water on the sample. Hold a clean cover slip by the edge and place it on the sample. You may want to use tweezers or a pencil so that you don’t touch it. Use paper towel to gently absorb excess water on the slide.
