4 Did you invite Pam to visit us? We studied vowel sounds in syllables that end with silent e. Read this sentence to yourself. Raise your hand when you know which word has a long vowel sound. What long vowel sound do you hear in the second syllable? How do you know that i stands for its long sound? Do you want to sit beside Ken?

15 Make a Sign Create a word search using our spelling words! Spelling Strategy Problem Parts A word with a short vowel sound in the first syllable can often supply a clue that two consonants follow the short vowel. Have students pay attention to the first vowel sound to help spell words.
