Archibald Motley He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1891 He went to the Art Institute of Chicago. He died when he was 90 years old. He married his high school sweetheart He is famous for his painting. His art inspired the African culture of Jazz We think he is important because he inspired the newly form African culture Jose, Trey, Khallil

This is a painting that Motley made during the Harlem Renaissance. It means that whites and blacks didn’t matter when there in a jazz club having fun. They just wanted to have fun. there was no such thing as Jim Crow when you was in a jazz club.

Birth date: April 7, 1915 Birth place: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Death date: July 17, 1959 Death place: New York City, New York At the age of 18 and after gaining more experience than most adult musicians can claim, Holiday was spotted by John Hammond and cut her first record as part of a studio group led by Benny Goodman, who was then just on the verge of public prominence. Holiday recorded about 100 new recordings on another label, Verve, from 1952 to 1959. "No two people on earth are alike, and it's got to be that way in music or it isn't music." This quote means that if there is no originality established within the music then it shouldn’t be considered your own music. You have to feel the music, people should be able to relate to the lyrics.

Aaron Douglas Born May 26, 1899 in Topeka, Kansas Moved to Harlem in 1925 Considered “Father of African American Arts” Aaron Douglas contributed to the Harlem Renaissance in a lasting and meaningful way by illustrating books, painting murals and canvases. This picture by Aaron Douglas represents Blacks moving from slavery to the city and making a new foundation for themselves by the migration of music to raise from the suffering of dried blood to a statue of remembrance for fellow blacks beyond the road of slavery. This picture is significant to the Harlem renaissance because it shows the struggle blacks went threw and how they had overcome their past of abuse to because a recognized foundation.
