Freshmen course – all engineers IDE course elements –Reverse design process mechanical dissection –Team design problems –Final Design Project - students given specs & budget, design constraints & deadline –Oral & written communication UAB EGR 100: INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING

New course for BME students 2004-2005 Next level – BME designs only UAB BME 210: INTRODUCTION TO BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN Problem Brainstorm Design specs/ sheets/drawings Prototype Oral & written presentations

Innovation/Design/Entrepreneurship features –Student teams paired with Client –Proposal Written & oral Client & faculty approval –Prototype must be constructed, tested & approved Real-world training –Patents, copyrights, ethics & professionalism –Machine shop training How things are actually manufactured, fastened, etc. UAB BME 499: SENIOR DESIGN
