He carried out many chemical reactions and lead to a book being published called A New System of Chemical Philosophy. Dalton found that 12 grams of carbon could react with 16 grams of oxygen to form a compound that we call carbon monoxide. On October 21, 1803 he gave this society the first announcement of his famous atomic theory. All matter is composed of very small particles called atoms. In chemical reactions, atoms combine with each other in simple, whole-number ratios to form combined atoms. IMPORTANCE OF THE DISCOVERY

He researched color blindness. Most of his life he had very little money. John Dalton was the youngest of the three surviving children of a Quaker handloom weaver. In 1810 he refused an invitation to the Royal Society, but then in 1822 he was elected without his knowledge. 4 RANDOM FACTS
