Money The most common application of math is money and personal finance. If you’ve ever balanced a checkbook, compared loans to buy a car, or set up a retirement account, then you have had to call on your skills in decimals/fractions/percents to help you.

American Money In the US, our money is based on dollars and cents. One cent is represented as $.01, with a 1 in the hundredths place, because it is 1/100 th of a dollar. Notice “cents” is from the Latin centum meaning a hundred.
