Description: Students create food chains and food webs to interpret energy flow in ecosystems. Goals: Distinguish between food chains and webs.

Objectives: Design and create food chains and food webs.Design and create food chains and food webs. Explain the flow of energy within an ecosystem.Explain the flow of energy within an ecosystem.

Warm Up: Watch Video Q = List 10 Facts about food chains/webs from the video. A = vary

Insert Bill Nye video here

Many Food Chains in each Ecosystem

If you take all of the food chains in an ecosystem you get a Food Web

Use the packet of pictures to… 1.Categorize the organisms into:  Original Source of Energy  Producers  Herbivores  Carnivores 2.Now make three food chains  Include a primary producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, top consumer I’ll check these BEFORE we can move on!

Exit Ticket: Q = 1.Which is more complex - food chains or webs? 2.What do trophic pyramids and food chains have in common? 3.What directions do the arrows point in a food web/chain? A = 1.Food Webs 2.Both relate the transfer of energy through means of food. 3.Where the energy is GOING (e.g. to predator)

Objectives: Design and create food chains and food webs.Design and create food chains and food webs. Explain the flow of energy within an ecosystem.Explain the flow of energy within an ecosystem.
